As we look back on 2024, we’re proud to share some of the key milestones we’ve achieved here at Stockton BID. With the invaluable input from our business community, we’ve focused on initiatives that not only respond to your needs but also enhance the vibrancy and safety of our town centre. Here are just a few highlights from the year:
Strengthening Security with the Crime Partnership
Following feedback from our business surveys, one of our top priorities was tackling crime and ensuring a safer environment for everyone. This led to the launch of the Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP), which is now fully operational. Through this initiative, we introduced Sentrysis, a platform for recording incidents, distributed over 20 radios to businesses, and funded access to the Shop Watch scheme for all members of the night-time economy. The success of the BCRP means it will expand further in 2025, offering even more support to businesses.
Adding Colour and Creativity with Stockton’s First Art Festival
Another key focus was bringing more vibrancy to Stockton, and we delivered this in a big way with Stockton’s first-ever Art Festival. This event showcased over 50 local artists and featured stunning murals around the town centre. It generated over £18,000 in commissioned work for local talent and received glowing reviews from the press and public alike. The festival brought positive coverage in print, online media, and radio, putting Stockton firmly on the cultural map.
Supporting Businesses Through Engagement and Networking
Throughout the year, we continued our commitment to supporting businesses. Stockton MET, our networking series, remained a staple for most of the year, providing opportunities for collaboration and growth. Regular business engagement has been at the heart of what we do, ensuring we’re always listening and responding to your needs.
Boosting Business After December’s Storms
The severe storms of early December significantly impacted sales and events in the town centre. To help counter this, we organised a weekend of festive performers and online giveaways for 21st December in partnership with Wellington Square. These efforts attracted more visitors to the town centre, giving businesses a much-needed boost during the holiday season.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As we prepare for the year ahead, including the 200th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, we’re excited to build on these successes. From expanding the BCRP to continuing to support creative initiatives and business engagement, we’re committed to making Stockton an even better place to live, work, and visit.
Thank you to all our businesses, partners, and visitors for making 2024 such a fantastic year. Here’s to an even brighter 2025!
