Meet the Human rooted to her floral Inspirations

An innovative nationwide marketing campaign designed to highlight the importance of our high streets has been unveiled in Stockton.

Humans of the High Street aims to document in real terms the thoughts and feelings of business owners during the Covid-19 pandemic and ensuing lockdown was created by Tees Valley creative agency OOK for Stockton Business Improvement District.

“When Lockdown came about I was sad and unsure of the future with florists choosing to close the doors. COVID has been a painful time, many people experienced the loss of loved ones, further compounded by the fact they were unable to say goodbye and attend the funeral.

Many families felt robbed, in grief and unable to pay a final tribute - were told by the funeral director to go to Tesco and grab a bunch of flowers. It was a highly emotional situation and during the pandemic customers contacted me daily thinking I was shut, to find out I was open and working behind closed doors.

Throughout the pandemic we worked behind closed doors, listening to the stories of love and loss our customers had experienced, offering human and social interaction, granted over the phone we were able to design a fitting and final floral tribute that brought many customers’ great comfort in their most-darkest of hours”. “The Humans of the High Street every day go over and above to provide a great service, emotional support and social interaction and really underpin hope and the meaning of community spirit, something we just can’t get from an online platform”: added Jason Maxwell, BID Manager.

#HOTHS runs nationwide across multiple digital platforms including YouTube and on social media. Plans include rolling Humans of the High Street out to radio and TV. #HOTHS Creator Max Freer said: “It has been a real privilege to create this campaign for Stockton BID. It is the right time to tell real stories, by real people in the hope that in the future you may consider to shop local and choose an independent over a larger chain”.
